Session outline:

Master the art of messaging and personal branding. What should you focus on in a candidate blurb/150 word candidate statement? Are hoardings a help or hindrance? This session equips you to get your message across effectively, and inspire and mobilise your community around shared goals.

Sophie Handford

Sophie Handford is a 24-year-old Councillor, activist from Kāpiti, New Zealand. She founded School Strike 4 Climate in Aotearoa NZ and went on to coordinate the movement which mobilised 170,000 people across the country in September of 2019, united for climate justice. She then ran for Council at the age of 18 and was elected as one of Aotearoa’s youngest Councillors, onto the Kāpiti Coast District Council. She’s now chairing its Strategy, Operations and Finance Committee.

Suraya Sidhu Singh

Suraya Sidhu Singh is an artist, writer and advocate for public transport, based in Ngāmotu (New Plymouth) Taranaki. She is the founder of I Love Public Transport Taranaki and she also writes for The Spinoff.

Peri Zee

Peri Zee is running for Mayor of Upper Hutt. She has spent her career in local government across urban planning, climate change, social innovation and transport. She is now a Senior Consultant who helps local government, iwi, and businesses all over the country solve their biggest challenges. She is running as an independent and wants to see Upper Hutt unlock its huge potential.
